Heart Healthy with Gordmans ❤️

Did you know that cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in the United States, responsible for 840,768 deaths (635,260 cardiac) in 2016? From 2006 to 2016, the US death rate from CVD decreased by 18.6% and from coronary heart disease by 31.8%.

I was excited to partner with Gordmans to bring awareness to heart health through their campaign #GetPumpedForHeartHealth ❤️ From April 1-30th, with every share on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #GetPumpedForHeartHealth, Gordmans will donate $1 to the American Heart Association. What does heart healthy look like to you? It could be something as simple as random acts of kindness, cooking healthy meals, or incorporating family time into your day.

Part of my job as a blogger is to empower other women to feel comfortable in their own skin and clothing. Fashion is obviously a big part of my life and it really is true that you are what you wear! I was able to find so many styles and sizes throughout Gordmans to fit every size and style, including men & children. Don't forget your fur babies either ☺️

Rowan was so happy to pick out her “workout” outfit (pictured below). Heart healthy behaviors start at any age. Get your kids involved and watch them influence their peers as well. It is always a challenge in our home to see how much weight she can lift and how many times and I bet if she had a younger sibling we would have some friendly competitions! Haha If you notice she starts at 2 lbs. ☺️ Get your family moving together!

Did you know that a balanced eating regimen with foods from all five food groups is key to preventing disease? My nursing background helps me to understand how to keep my family healthy by cooking meals at home, plus with a child it is just plain easier. When you are in charge of the ingredients, you tend to put more thought into what you are feeding your families. I challenge you to cook one more meal a week at home. Set a goal for yourself!

Being heart healthy doesn’t have to be just consuming healthy foods. I have started off this 2019 year by reading a daily devotional with my morning coffee. It allows me to meditate and relax my mind, freeing it from the anxiety of every day life. Do you take time for yourself throughout the day? If so, what do you do?

So many of you and your loved ones have been affected by heart disease, and I am hopeful that by continuing to bring awareness to to it, we can start to change lives and perspectives on how to live a heart healthy life!

Apple Watch Bands-All Under $50

Houston....I have a problem 😂 I am admitting it right here and clearly you can all see it in my Instagram photos! But they are so addicting and totally change up your outfit or in my case match my outfit!

If you don't know what I am talking about, I recently got a new Apple Watch, which I never wanted because I think they are ugly. When the Apple store showed me my band options I was less than thrilled with a gray band that was $50. I mean seriously? So like any gal or guy knows.....Amazon to the rescue.

The best time to stock up on your favorites or to try something NEW! The Sephora VIB sale never disappoints! The only YouTube videos I could watch for hours are makeup tutorials and honestly, I get asked a lot to do one but I really have no freaking idea what I am actually doing!

Shopping with Rack Room Shoes

I had the opportunity to check out the new Rack Room Shoes at The Outlets of Des Moines, which opened it's doors on October, 19th as the first store of it's kind in Iowa. It does not disappoint! The store is located just down from the cozy fireplace, with plenty of centralized maps to get you to where you are wanting to go. The store was incredibly clean and set up perfectly with lots of staff to accommodate your shopping needs. It boasts all types of shoes and styles for men, women and children, with plenty of sizes available and in stock. How cute are these boots? And I swear they are the most comfortable pair I own! They have super soft inserts and this rust brown color is the perfect neutral bootie for any season!

NEW BALANCE

This color has my heart. Burgundy and rose gold are really the perfect pairing and I love how you can dress these up with a sweater or dress them down to and from the gym.

LIMELIGHT MONIQUE

Velvet.... also know as the hottest trend right now! These are 1/2 the price of other look alike booties, which I love, because I don't like paying a fortune for shoes that are not your standard shoe. These booties are fun and will spice up any outfit, anytime!

NIKE FLEX

I need these in every color! Grey goes great with everything and these sneakers are so lightweight making them really easy to pack for vacations too! Of course I love the added touch of gold 😉

BLACK VELVET BOOTIES

What made my shopping experience even better, was that they offer free shipping in store to your home so you don't have to carry around bags. Who doesn't love shopping, bag free? Such a nice perk since a lot of people traveling from out of town may not want to haul a ton of bags home, and trust me, you will leave this store with a lot of bags!

I was impressed with all of the brands and athletic shoes they carried in the store and online. Brands like Nike, Converse, Adidas, and New Balance. And they weren't just selling plain white Converse shoes, they had them in all styles and a variety of colors, making it hard to choose just one pair. 

Some of you may be wondering why or how a store like this could be such a great addition to our community? I personally like to collaborate with companies who give back, and each back to school season, Rack Room Shoes hosts a Shoes That Fit fundraiser event, empowering customers to give back to their local communities by supplying children in need with shoes. The money raised is channeled through local school liaisons who identify students and school systems in need, while also coordinating the distribution of new footwear. Since 2007, Rack Room Shoes has raised a total of $5,604,113 and donated a whopping 206,201 pairs of shoes to children in need. So amazing right? Also, through a newly unveiled Kids Club, Rack Room Shoes encourages parents to submit photos of their children wearing Rack Room Shoes, simply by using the hashtag #iamrackroom, for a chance to be featured in the brand's Kids Club advertising.
